Below are various activities, fundraisers, and programs that the Washington Elementary PTA helps support and promote. Each one helps bring in money to the school for various programs and activities.

Washington PTA Volunteer Opportunities and Committees 2016-2017

Art Program

Assist and empower teachers with knowledge, ideas and resources for art projects, manage the Art Space room, utilize talents of Visiting Artists and assistance of parent volunteers; seek foundation grant money for specific art needs, such as purchasing easels, art supplies and funding visiting artists. And explore additional income/fundraising sources: student art auctions/sales and products with student art images.

BINGO Night

Bingo Night began in 2008 and continues to grow each year. The PTA does this event to give families an opportunity to have an affordable family fun night. During the event we play around 12 games of bingo and also have raffle prizes in between. The prizes for the games and raffles are either purchased on the PTA budget, donated by Washington families or donated by the community. The committee will need to set up, clean up, coordinate game callers and help manage the games. There is typically food & drinks served at the event and a concession stand to purchase snacks sold by the PTA.

BINGO 2016

Box Tops

Collecting Box Tops is an easy way to help raise money for our school. Each Box Top earns Washington 10 cents, which doesn't seem like much, but adds up fast! Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products. Box Top Volunteers will collect Box Tops from the school, bag them into groups of 50, and mail them in to the company. Volunteers will sometimes coordinate classroom contests to encourage participation. We raised $2400 in the 2013-14 school year!

Communications

Volunteers will work on the newsletter, the website, the student directory, Thursday Folders, social media and more, to facilitate communication between Washington families, friends, faculty and staff. This committee may also be responsible for maintaining the outside marquee and the inside announcement board (across from the office) with up to date events and information.

Community Resources

Plan and set up community fundraising nights for Washington (i.e. Sonic Night, Skate Night, Applebee’s Night, Mazzio’s Night, etc.) Volunteers will schedule these events with local businesses and promote them.

Friday Treats

Every other Friday popcorn, popsicles, pickles, it varies!

School Dance

Plan and organize the school dance. Volunteers will help serve food, decorate, set up, clean up and obtain prizes for the contests.

Fall Carnival

The Fall Carnival is an evening of family fun! Each classroom sets up a booth of carnival games outside on the jogging track and we have several large inflatables. We sometimes have a balloon animal artist and face painting. At each booth, children are given a participation prize like a small toy or piece of candy. Families may purchase tickets or wristbands in advance or at the door on the night of the carnival. We also have food for sale and free popcorn! Volunteers will help coordinate booths, obtain prizes, serve food, decorate, and clean up.

Student Art Gallery & Show

Art will be displayed on wall and trophy case space in the main entry hall. Committee responsible for collecting, labeling and hanging/ displaying art. Art (including prose/poetry) will be displayed on a rotating basis (monthly, bimonthly, quarterly) to be determined by committee.

Show to be held in February with Opening Night in conjunction with PTA meeting. Committee responsibilities include labeling and hanging art for show, planning opening night reception and dismantling/distributing art at end of show.

Super Kids Day

End of school year fun and games for the kids and grown ups alike! We sometimes have inflatables, games, snocones, and a DJ!

Teacher Appreciation

W.O.O.D.S.

Washington's Out Of Doors classroom was established years ago as a place for learning enrichment in an outdoor environment. It is open year round for teachers to use for making observations, reading time, and exploration. The PTA has spent the past 2 years revitalizing it and budgets some money each year for maintenance. Adam with Eco Landscaping has been providing his expertise and has donated a lot of time and resources to our outdoor space! W.O.O.D.S. requires frequent care during the growing season, including the summer.

Yearbook

Responsible for the preparation of the yearbook for publication and coordination with the yearbook company. Volunteers will work closely with Washington faculty, staff, and families to acquire photos and information for the yearbook. Volunteers will attend Washington events and activities to take photos. This committee will also be responsible for distribution of the yearbooks at the end of school and coordination of yearbook signing day.
